A Raritan Case Study
J.R. Simplot, a major privately held food and agribusiness company, undertook a data center refurbishment to support corporate green initiatives and to increase rack density, improve troubleshooting, and better manage operational risks. The team needed more efficient power use, finer-grained monitoring and control, and environmental oversight—moving from 120V to 240V, matching rack power to device counts, and preventing “rogue” installs were key objectives.
The solution combined a 120→240V conversion with intelligent rack PDUs that provide outlet-level metering and switching, environmental sensors, LDAP/AD provisioning, and Raritan Power IQ energy-management software (plus KVM-over-IP). Results included doubling available rack power, accurate per-outlet capacity and usage data for planning and decommissioning inefficient servers, automated provisioning to stop rogue installs, and centralized alerts and reports that support the company’s energy-efficiency goals.
