How Uber protects their drivers and riders with in-app safety features

Uber wanted to make it easier and safer for riders and drivers to get help in an emergency. While the app already had access to useful trip details like GPS location and vehicle information, it could not send that data directly to 911. Uber partnered with RapidSOS, using its Enterprise Emergency Verification and in-app emergency call capabilities, to close that gap.

With RapidSOS, Uber added a discreet in-app 911 call feature in the Uber Safety Toolkit that routes emergency calls and shares real-time location, vehicle, driver, rider, and medical data with emergency communications centers. This gave first responders more incident intelligence and improved response speed and quality. Uber reported positive feedback from users and media after the rollout, with riders and drivers feeling more reassured when using the service.
