Geo-Comm partnered with RapidSOS to evaluate how well smartphone 911 caller locations were captured and delivered to a PSAP. The challenge was that traditional wireless location methods, especially Phase 1 and Phase 2 ALI, were often inconsistent and slow, particularly for indoor calls where accurate location is critical for emergency response.

RapidSOS provided device-based hybrid location through its NG911 Clearinghouse using AML, which was displayed in GeoComm’s 9-1-1 mapping product. In testing across 15 calls, RapidSOS location averaged 16 meters from ground truth versus 202 meters for traditional 9-1-1 location, and it was available with no delay after the initial ALI response. The study also found that indoor maps combined with RapidSOS location helped identify the correct room in 9 out of 10 cases where indoor mapping was available.
