A RapidSOS Case Study
Collier County Sheriff’s Office needed a faster, more accurate way to locate wireless 9-1-1 callers, especially when callers were indoors or unsure of their exact location. Traditional E911 methods often relied on slower, less precise network-based location data, creating delays and confusion for call-takers. RapidSOS helped address this challenge by delivering Android Emergency Location Service (ELS) data through the RapidSOS Clearinghouse into the agency’s existing call-taking software.
Using the RapidSOS Clearinghouse, Collier County Sheriff’s Office received device-based location that was more accurate and typically arrived 25–30 seconds faster than Phase 2 ALI location. In the pilot, 76% of ELS locations reported uncertainty under 50 meters, and 70% of ELS locations were delivered on the initial call compared with 22% for Phase 2. RapidSOS was also used in real emergencies, helping responders locate callers correctly and saving lives.
