RapidDeploy Enables Emergency Response to School Shooting Threats in Carter County, TN

Tennessee’s Carter County Emergency Communications District 911 used RapidDeploy’s Radius Mapping to investigate a series of alarming 911 calls from a 911-only phone. The caller first reported a threat near his home, then later made a call referencing a shooting threat to a local school, but the address information did not initially appear to fall within the county’s jurisdiction.

Using RapidDeploy’s Radius Mapping, telecommunicators were able to map the calls to nearby cell towers and ultimately pinpoint the caller’s location to the Happy Valley High School campus. RapidDeploy’s location tracking enabled an immediate lockdown and multi-agency response, leading to the arrest of three juveniles within 24 hours and helping protect 5,000 students across 16 schools.
