A Rapid7 Case Study
Carnegie Mellon University, a global research institution, needed a vulnerability management solution that could scan campus-wide assets, provide centralized monitoring and analysis, and produce customizable reports across a decentralized IT environment. After evaluating several products, CMU selected Rapid7 Nexpose for its Linux and Kerberos support, secure web interface, open API, asset grouping, access controls, and Rapid7’s demonstrated expertise and willingness to partner with higher education.
Implementing Nexpose enabled extensive vulnerability scanning, centralized monitoring, and root-cause analysis while the intuitive web UI and asset-based access controls let administrators view and act on relevant results with minimal training. The open API supports automation and provisioning, and Rapid7’s responsive support helped CMU build a robust, campus-wide vulnerability detection system and streamline reporting and remediation.
