Pioneer Telephone Uses Rapid7 InsightIDR and Nexpose to Unite Disparate Departments and Networks

Pioneer Telephone, a 60+-year rural telecom serving roughly 150,000 subscribers across Oklahoma and Kansas (about 570 employees), needed to unify disparate corporate, telephone, and broadband networks and meet compliance without a centralized IT team. Information Security Officer Chad Kliewer—effectively a security team of one—was charged with building an overall security program and gaining visibility into assets and risks across the organization.

Kliewer deployed Rapid7 Nexpose for vulnerability and asset discovery (finding ~6,000 assets) and InsightIDR for detection, user-behavior analytics, and endpoint visibility. The integrated tools let him prioritize remediation with dynamic asset groups and automated reports, find and fix risky user behavior (e.g., unapproved mobile email apps), extend visibility to field technicians via the Insight Agent, and produce metrics to reduce the attack surface and unify previously siloed departments.
