Case Study: Renfe achieves a top‑ranked digital onboard magazine that entertains 31.2M passengers with Rakuten DX

A Rakuten DX Case Study

Preview of the Renfe Case Study

How to keep over 30 million train passengers entertained

Renfe, a leading Spanish high‑speed rail operator carrying about 31.2 million passengers a year, needed a way to turn long journeys into engaging "me" moments for digitally connected travelers. Facing passengers who are overwhelmingly device‑centric (96% carry digital devices) and wanting to reduce print costs for onboard magazines, Renfe partnered with Rakuten DX and its digital publishing tools (Aquafadas) to modernize its onboard content.

Using Rakuten DX’s Aquafadas platform together with publisher Prisa Revistas, Renfe launched a mobile and tablet onboard magazine featuring photo galleries, interactive features, local guides, restaurant reviews, quizzes and games. The Rakuten DX‑enabled digital publication became one of the most downloaded online magazines on iOS and Android, boosting passenger engagement, reducing reliance on print, and reaching Renfe’s large traveling audience.
