VMware needed to pivot its flagship VMworld event, which typically attracted over 35,000 attendees, to a fully virtual format in 2020. Their challenge was to create an immersive digital experience that replicated the physical event's core goals of facilitating interaction with experts, peer networking, and partner engagement, all while maintaining data consistency with previous years. To achieve this, they turned to the RainFocus event management platform.

Using the RainFocus platform, VMware created a personalized event portal with dedicated content channels, expert playlists, and a gamification system to drive attendee engagement. The solution supported 473 hours of live sessions across three time zones and provided robust tools for virtual exhibitor booths and lead generation. The results were highly successful, with the event garnering 661,028 unique session views and an average of 9.4 sessions attended per person.
