Case Study: London Underground achieves accurate train times and improved reliability with Raima Database Manager

A Raima Case Study

Preview of the London Underground Case Study

Train times on London Underground accurate thanks to embedded database

London Underground deployed Raima’s Database Manager on the Piccadilly line to address aging control equipment, limited maintenance access and strict safety requirements while supporting Transport for London’s plan to increase passenger capacity by 24%. The challenge was to capture and organise large volumes of track occupancy, signal status and train telemetry so operators could monitor and control the line in near real-time and meet rail safety integrity standards.

Raima implemented the Raima Database Manager (RDM) as the central embedded database to ingest continuous sensor streams, provide optimized relational/hierarchical storage, and deliver real-time displays and control interfaces. RDM’s MVCC, multicore configuration and mirroring/replication capabilities improved visibility and operational responsiveness, enabled operators to issue timetable and destination commands in real time, supported Rail Safety Integrity Level certification and high availability, and helped London Underground progress toward its capacity and reliability targets.
