Case Study: AENA (Spain’s airport & air navigation authority) achieves high availability and maximum performance for mission-critical applications with Radware

A Radware Case Study

Preview of the AENA Case Study

Radware solutions ensure integrated application delivery to AENA, Spain’s Leading Airport Navigation Authority

AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea) is Spain’s airport and air navigation authority, managing 47 airports and 1 heliport and supporting millions of passengers via a large ATM WAN (50+ nodes, ~50,000 Ethernet ports). Facing seasonal traffic spikes, split IT units, and the need to provide always-on, high-performance, secure services to airlines, partners and passengers, AENA needed resilient multi-homing, scalable perimeter security, and application availability for mission‑critical systems like flight information, check‑in and baggage services.

Radware deployed an integrated set of solutions—LinkProof for ISP multi‑homing and bandwidth management (avoiding BGP complexity), Content Inspection Director (CID) to accelerate and centralize anti‑virus filtering, and Web Server Director on Application Switch II for load balancing—managed remotely via Configware. The rollout (50+ Radware devices) delivered uninterrupted Internet access, reduced AV server counts while supporting 10,000+ users, improved application performance across all airports, cut infrastructure costs, and enabled rapid, easy administration and strong operational results.
