O’Reilly Media, a leading technology publisher and organizer of the Velocity Web Performance conference, set a strict goal of delivering pages in under two seconds for its content-rich site. Like many large sites, O’Reilly struggled with performance pitfalls such as third-party widgets and content served from multiple servers, and before testing an optimization solution only 12% of visitors experienced sub-2-second page loads.
O’Reilly ran a four-week trial of the Radware FastView cloud service (formerly Strangeloop Site Optimizer) and saw dramatic gains: the share of visitors with sub-2-second loads jumped to 87%, an over 600% improvement in that band and a 500% improvement moving users from 8–30s to 2–8s. Based on the results, O’Reilly deployed FastView across multiple data centers to accelerate core site traffic.
