Grifols Increases Availability and Performance with Alteon NG for Network Load Balancing and SSL Offloading

Grifols, a global healthcare company that develops and supplies therapies and medical tools in more than 90 countries, needed a virtual application delivery controller to handle global load balancing and SSL offloading. Their web applications suffered CPU overloads—servers would hang when dozens of users opened SSL sessions simultaneously—and regulatory requirements demanded separate virtual ADCs and isolated deployment, test, validation and production environments for each application.

Grifols deployed Radware’s Alteon NG vADC to provide end-to-end local and global load balancing, SSL offloading and separate vADCs per application and environment. The migration was seamless, and the solution increased availability and performance across the data center: reverse-proxy load distribution allowed each server to handle its own application area, and SSL offloading scaled to about 250 simultaneous SSL sessions with server CPU around 20%.
