Black & Veatch worked with Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to evaluate a cybersecurity intrusion detection approach for several substation sites. The utility was looking at Radiflow’s iSID Intrusion Detection System, along with the company’s gateway firewall options, to improve visibility into field network activity and strengthen protection in an industrial control system environment.

Radiflow’s iSID was deployed in a proof-of-concept across three substations and reviewed over a four-month operating window, with Black & Veatch assessing installation, usability, documentation, and alerting value. The review found that Radiflow’s solution was straightforward to install, easy for utility staff to operate, and especially strong in application flow mapping, real-time alerting, and SYSLOG-based compliance support; while no hard quantitative savings were reported, the customer rated key features as “Good” to “Exceptional” and the system was judged to meaningfully improve cybersecurity posture and NERC CIP compliance support.
