TrueCar cuts costs by 50% and improved scalability

TrueCar, an online car-buying marketplace that provides pricing and vehicle data to thousands of buyers and dealers, faced scaling limits as its Vehicle Intelligence System (VIS) and other mission‑critical applications ran in internal data centers. With a small operations team managing thousands of virtual servers, hardware and shared QA/dev environments slowed development and stifled product velocity just as the company needed to grow.

Partnering with Onica by Rackspace Technology, TrueCar migrated more than 1,000 virtual machines to AWS and rebuilt its big‑data and dev/test stack using services like EC2, S3, Kinesis, Lambda, Redshift, ECS (Docker “space pods”), and Hadoop. The move enabled near‑real‑time analytics across billions of data points, cut expected operational costs by about 50%, and let engineers spin up full development environments in 15 minutes instead of months—dramatically accelerating innovation and improving cross‑team collaboration.
