TrueAbility is a Geekdom-born startup and member of the Rackspace Startup Program that provides live, hands-on technical assessments so engineers can prove skills in real-world environments. Faced with a need to close the industry skill gap and build a scalable, credible platform that remains free for practitioners while generating revenue, the team also needed infrastructure that could rapidly provision isolated test environments for each user.

TrueAbility solved this by building entirely on the Rackspace Cloud—using Cloud Servers (2GB/4GB Performance), Postgres, Chef, Cloud Files, Load Balancers, Networks, DNS, email services and the Cloud Servers API—to launch a dedicated server per assessment, often deploying and terminating 500+ servers a day. The result: thousands of servers provisioned, a growing technical community and high-profile customers (SendGrid, Netflix, Rackspace, Sony PlayStation), a popular Linux Showdown competition, and a revenue model that includes a skills-verified job board and internal L&D tools that deliver ranked, hire-ready candidates.
