A Rackspace Technology Case Study
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the UK’s largest independent funder of research into heart and circulatory diseases, relying on donations and an extensive retail operation to fund its ambitious 2030 goal to "beat heartbreak forever." As the charity’s website became central to fundraising, campaigns and information for supporters, it struggled with stability and scale—slowing or failing under peak traffic and limiting the organisation’s ability to grow.
Rackspace partnered with BHF to migrate its web infrastructure to Microsoft Azure, using a staged approach between October 2018 and April 2019 that kept the site online with no downtime. The move delivered a reliable, scalable Platform as a Service foundation, improved donor experience, supported higher campaign and retail traffic, shifted technology into a strategic enabler across the organisation, and helped attract the talent needed to drive the charity’s 2030 ambitions.
