Smrt English is a digital English‑learning platform used by nearly 100,000 students across about 100 institutions. The company faced reliability and scalability problems with its existing Amazon EC2 deployment—unexpected outages and limited fault tolerance threatened availability and data safety as traffic grew, creating a need for a robust, autoscaling environment and automated configuration management.

Onica by Rackspace Technology re‑architected Smrt’s platform using AWS services (VPC, RDS, EC2, ELB, Auto Scaling) plus CloudFormation and Elastic Beanstalk, added monitoring and a fully automated build pipeline tied to the SVN repo, and enabled one‑click regional deployments. The result was a fully automated, highly available, and scalable site with better performance, lower infrastructure costs, and faster, more frequent code releases that support Smrt’s ongoing growth.
