OnMetal Takes the Control Group to a Whole New Level 0f Performance

The Control Group, a San Diego–based internet marketing and development firm founded in 2010 and known for products like Instant Checkmate, manages some of the U.S.’s highest-traffic sites. They struggled with resource‑hungry applications such as Elasticsearch that hit scaling limits, suffered I/O and “noisy neighbor” performance problems, and required affordable, scalable storage and guaranteed high-speed response as visitor volume grew.

Rackspace’s OnMetal single‑tenant bare‑metal cloud servers, combined with predictive auto‑scaling and 24x7 Fanatical Support, removed those limits and enabled a seamless migration. The result: all but five applications now load in under 500 ms, Elasticsearch runs at the needed scale while cutting per‑instance cost roughly to one‑eighth of the previous option, and data‑center utilization rose from ~20% to about 65% (projected 75%), delivering better performance and lower costs.
