National Kidney Registry coordinates miracle matches

The National Kidney Registry (NKR) is a nonprofit that coordinates paired kidney exchanges among living donors and recipients across more than 80 transplant centers to increase the number, speed and quality of transplants. As NKR grew—facilitating roughly 30–40 transplants per month—it outgrew its on‑premises systems and faced urgent needs for high availability, data security and regulatory (HIPAA) compliance.

Rackspace delivered a managed hosting and security solution—moving email, the donor/recipient database and front-end systems into a HIPAA‑compliant environment with managed security and rapid support. The result is a dependable, scalable infrastructure that protects patient data, maintains critical uptime during transplants (and resiliently handled outages like Hurricane Sandy), and enables NKR to continue facilitating hundreds of lifesaving matches each year.
