Knowji is an education-technology startup in the Rackspace Startup Program that helps people learn languages faster by solving a persistent vocabulary-learning problem. Founder Emmie Thomas, an immigrant who struggled with memorizing vocabulary for exams and everyday life, built Knowji to address the lack of effective, engaging tools for rapid language acquisition—while the small team also needed reliable cloud infrastructure to support a growing mobile product.

Knowji developed 14 mobile vocabulary apps that combine entertaining content with a scientifically based adaptive learning algorithm (spaced repetition) and hosted them on Rackspace for reliability and cloud expertise. The apps, featured in the Apple App Store, help users learn hundreds of words in a month, have strong testimonials from ESL and struggling students, and earned Knowji a selection to present at the Global Startup Vision Conference in Seoul.
