A Rackspace Technology Case Study
Oxfam, the global non‑profit with 10,000 staff across 120 locations, needed a more efficient, flexible IT estate to support emergency response, fundraising and day‑to‑day operations. Its legacy infrastructure was inflexible and reactive—causing website strain during traffic spikes, server reliability issues and limited ability to scale—so Oxfam partnered with Rackspace to modernize and move to a pay‑as‑you‑go cloud model.
Over a 14‑month transformation Rackspace and Oxfam assessed the estate, decommissioned redundant workloads and migrated key applications (31 workloads) to Microsoft Azure across two regions, while Rackspace took on routine ops tasks to free internal teams. Post‑migration Oxfam cut monthly cloud costs by 20%, raised conversion rates from 21% to 32%, slashed Single Giving page loads from 1.82s to 0.02s, reduced volunteer application loads from 17.2s to 0.16s, increased online shop sales by 22%, achieved faster customer journeys (50% quicker) and added an estimated £162,000/yr from speed improvements—while eliminating outages on peak days.
