Case Study: Behance achieves scalable, reliable image processing and rapid growth with Rackspace Technology's Hybrid Cloud

A Rackspace Technology Case Study

Fueling Fast Growth With Hybrid Cloud

Behance, the online platform for creative portfolios, faced rapid growth after launching in 2007 and later being acquired by Adobe—reaching over a million users and roughly 100 million page views per month. Their primary challenge was a bottleneck in image processing: a single physical server couldn’t keep up, threatening site performance and future growth.

Behance adopted a Rackspace hybrid cloud—mixing dedicated hardware, public Cloud Servers, Rackspace Private Cloud and RackConnect—plus NAS, Cloud Files and Cloud Block Storage for varied storage needs. By autoscaling cloud servers for heavy image jobs, using DevOps automation (Chef/RightScale) and Rackspace managed services, they achieved faster image processing, higher reliability, and the ability to scale quickly while keeping a small operations team and balancing performance with cost.
