Echelon Fitness, a maker of connected exercise equipment and live/on-demand studio-quality workouts serving millions across the US, Canada and Europe, grew roughly 1,000% year over year from 2019. That rapid expansion created performance, scaling and regional security challenges for its streaming platform and apps, and put pressure on costs and reliability as user demand spiked.

Partnering with Onica to modernize on AWS, Echelon launched full streaming and mobile apps in three months and implemented Elastic Beanstalk autoscaling, Amazon CloudFront delivery, and S3 Glacier disaster recovery. The changes resolved scaling issues (supporting 10,000+ attendees), cut costs by about $25,000/month, enabled millions of classes (2M+ in 2020) and stronger security, and set the company up for further features like ML-driven recommendations and subtitle support.
