CNWL upgraded operations to provide essential health services remotely

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) is one of the UK’s largest integrated healthcare providers, serving a third of London with 7,000 staff, 300+ services and 150 sites. Facing stalled digital transformation, CNWL needed a reliable partner to migrate from legacy server-based systems to a modern private cloud environment within a six-month window to improve resilience, security and operational agility.

Working with Rackspace Technology, CNWL deployed a VMware private cloud across two data centres with managed services and round‑the‑clock support, enabling a full migration and rapid scaling when COVID‑19 hit. The move cut routine task times by up to two-thirds, supported a 48‑hour scale-up from 200 to 2,000 remote users, improved cost predictability and security, and unlocked new remote care capabilities—while setting the Trust on a path to multicloud, data modernization and further service innovation.
