Bold Apps (Bold Innovation Group Ltd.) is an ecommerce developer of 14 Shopify apps that help online merchants boost sales. After their apps — along with nearly 200 others on the Shopify platform — suffered outages on Black Friday 2013 due to an unexpected traffic spike, the company faced a critical need to prevent future holiday downtime and protect its customers.

They migrated to the Rackspace Managed Cloud and re-architected their stack: separated database, web, batch and file services, added load balancing, ScaleArc database caching, batch queue processing, New Relic monitoring, CloudFlare CDN, a pre-holiday code freeze, and beefed up support and customer communications. The changes kept their apps running for the remainder of that weekend and Cyber Monday and put them in a position to scale and respond quickly to future traffic surges, reducing the risk of lost revenue and reputational damage.
