A Rackspace Technology Case Study
AutoPets, maker of the Litter‑Robot Connect, was hampered by slow, unreliable mobile performance and a roughly 75% failure rate for new‑unit onboarding. The backend relied on unmanaged EC2 services and couldn’t be fully updated without disrupting customers, creating urgent risks ahead of an Android app launch.
Partnering with Onica (a Rackspace Technology company), AutoPets modernized its stack using AWS IoT Core, Amazon Kinesis, Lambda, API Gateway and DynamoDB—retaining EC2 only for unupdatable legacy devices while moving new workflows to managed, serverless services. The overhaul delivered a successful Android launch, much faster and more consistent app responses, scalable message handling and lower operating costs.
