Assignar is an Australian software service that helps construction subcontractors manage scheduling, time reporting and payroll. Rapid growth (about 150 customers and ~300% YoY) created demand for faster time-to-market, global scale, higher database performance and cost-efficiency, and relief from day-to-day infrastructure operations—especially to handle read-heavy, highly relational data and morning traffic spikes.

Assignar partnered with Rackspace for managed AWS, database management and professional services, migrating to Amazon Aurora on RDS with a dedicated account team and DBAs. The solution delivered automatic storage provisioning, scheduled auto-scaling, multi-region deployment and CI/CD improvements, enabling multiple daily releases, cutting database query times to ~50 ms, increasing uptime and scalability, reducing costs during high growth, and offloading operational burden to experts.
