Arthrex reimagines patient experience post-surgery with Rackspace Technology on AWS

Arthrex, a global medical device company, aimed to improve the post‑surgery patient experience by building a HIPAA‑compliant digital communications portal that lets surgeons upload reports, images and videos from the operating room for patients to access on demand. Existing methods—thumb drives, printouts and brief in‑person debriefs—were error‑prone, risked PHI exposure and left patients confused or calling back for clarification.

Rackspace Technology built a secure, scalable solution on AWS (leveraging Amazon S3, Amazon RDS for MySQL and a companion mobile app) with surgeon templates, encrypted storage and a patient portal with secure logins. The portal streamlined communications, increased patient satisfaction, reduced clinic workload and delivered measurable impact: 92% of surveyed patients said they didn’t need follow‑up calls, and one surgeon reported a 68% decrease in patient calls.
