Case Study: Appboy achieves scalable traffic spike management and faster server provisioning with Rackspace Technology

A Rackspace Technology Case Study

Preview of the AppBoy Case Study

Appboy Relies on a Hybrid Infrastructure to Manage Traffic Spikes

Appboy is a mobile relationship management platform (founded in 2011) that helps app creators manage user lifecycles with data-driven segmentation and multi-channel messaging. Rapid growth—about twentyfold in a year—and frequent, massive traffic spikes from promotions and app-store features created infrastructure strain: Appboy needed more servers, faster boot times, and reliable real-time analytics under peak loads.

Rackspace provided a hybrid solution of dedicated servers, managed cloud servers, and DevOps support to handle base load and burst into the cloud during spikes. Rackspace engineers streamlined server automation and incident management, cutting server build times from 20–30 minutes to under 10 minutes, enabling rapid scaling and giving Appboy the operational expertise and flexibility to reliably process intense, real-time traffic.
