NASA launches Open Science 101 with Raccoon Gang in 3 months

NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, faced the challenge of rapidly developing a comprehensive open science curriculum to train over 20,000 researchers within a tight deadline. They needed to transform expert knowledge into an engaging, on-demand program with a system for awarding digital credentials. To meet this challenge, they partnered with instructional design vendor Raccoon Gang to utilize Articulate Rise 360 for course authoring.

Raccoon Gang implemented the solution by designing and developing a five-module curriculum using a rapid development methodology, delivering the initial version in approximately 390 hours. The solution was built in Articulate Rise 360 and deployed as SCORM packages on an Open edX platform, integrating interactive elements and a Credly badge system. The measurable impact included the successful launch of the publicly available curriculum on an accelerated timeline, with Raccoon Gang providing ongoing support and implementing 846 content revisions for continuous improvement.
