Saint Luke’s improves surgical and inpatient access with Qventus

Saint Luke’s Health System, a 14-hospital integrated system in the Kansas City region, faced manual OR scheduling, COVID-related capacity constraints and industry-wide staffing shortages that limited surgical access, margins and surgeon/staff satisfaction. To address these challenges, Saint Luke’s expanded its use of Qventus by deploying the Qventus Perioperative Solution (building on prior inpatient use) to automate OR scheduling and optimize scarce OR time and staffing.

Qventus implemented its AI-powered Perioperative Solution—including Access, Growth, OR Insights and Market Insights modules—to predict and proactively release unused blocks, nudge surgeons, and automatically offer best-fit OR slots via TimeFinder and Available Time Outreach. As a result, Saint Luke’s accommodated 7% more surgical cases despite having 20% fewer staffed ORs, touched 103 additional patient lives in 2021 (209 annualized in 2023), increased lead time on released blocks by 14 days, and achieved 98% OR request acceptance with an 18-minute median turnaround.
