Case Study: NHS Foundation Trust improves chest X-ray reporting efficiency with Qure.ai

Leveraging AI for Enhanced Reading Efficiency and Improved Turnaround Time in Chest X-ray Reporting

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which spans three hospitals and handles around 140 chest X-ray requests a day, wanted to improve radiology workflow efficiency and turnaround times amid growing demand and a projected radiologist shortage. Working with Qure.ai, the trust explored how AI could help triage normal chest X-rays and free consultants to focus on more complex cases, including potential lung cancer findings.

Qure.ai implemented its qXR chest X-ray AI solution to distinguish normal from abnormal scans and support reporting prioritization. In the pilot, qXR achieved 99.7% accuracy in triaging normal CXRs, identified all cancer cases, and showed potential to reduce consultant radiologist workload by up to 58% and save about 2 hours per day, while enabling radiographer-led reporting for low-risk cases.
