NISA Retail - Customer Case Study

Nisa Retail is a £1.5 billion, member‑owned buying group representing around 2,500 stores across the UK. Technology underpins its supply and member services, so prolonged server downtime or data loss — across 31 critical internal systems (email, file/print, bespoke apps, SQL, EDI, domain services, etc.) — posed severe operational and regulatory (PCI) risks. The company needed a responsive, compliant disaster recovery solution because its existing recovery plan could take days or weeks to restore service.

Nisa deployed two Quorum onQ appliances (HQ and a Rotherham recovery site) with private‑cloud replication and an onQ Archive Vault for long‑term retention. The appliances keep ready‑to‑run virtual clones and Recovery Nodes that can be started in minutes, with daily (and some twice‑daily) backups and on‑demand testing. The solution delivered fast, self‑contained failover — proven during a SAN failure — reduced pressure on the IT team, cut backup storage and licensing costs, and provided a single, scalable tool for backup, HA and disaster recovery.
