Case Study: STFC achieves scalable, high-performance environmental data storage with Quobyte

STFC’s 45 PB of data - and growing – are safe and sound with Quobyte software storage

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) needed to upgrade the storage infrastructure behind the JASMIN super data cluster to support rapid growth toward 300PB. It required a massively scalable, high-performance, easy-to-manage storage platform that could serve both parallel file system and S3 object storage needs.

STFC implemented Quobyte’s Data Center File System, a unified software-defined storage platform running on commodity hardware. With Quobyte, JASMIN gained a single namespace for POSIX and object access, improved collaboration and workflow flexibility, and better operational efficiency through easier monitoring and management, while expanding storage to 45PB and then 90PB by Nov. 2023.
