Quobyte Provides Down-to-Earth HPC Storage Solution for 3vGeomatics

3vGeomatics, an InSAR technology provider serving mining, oil & gas, infrastructure, water management, and other industries, needed to improve processing times for massive radar satellite image datasets. Its existing 1.2 PB ZFS server with NFS mounts created bottlenecks, lockups, and heavy operational complexity as data volumes grew, making HPC storage a critical challenge. Quobyte’s Data Center File System was selected to better support its demanding image-processing workflows.

Quobyte implemented a high-performance parallel file system on commodity hardware, giving 3vGeomatics faster, more flexible access across multiple protocols and far simpler administration. The result was an order-of-magnitude improvement in read/write-heavy workloads versus ZFS and NFS, elimination of NFS lockups, and easier expansion and management. 3vGeomatics now runs twelve Quobyte servers, with four more planned for disaster recovery, and can turn satellite-image reports around in about 24 hours.
