Case Study: NEP Norway achieves scalable, cost-effective broadcast storage with Quobyte

A Quobyte Case Study

Preview of the NEP Norway Case Study

How Quobyte worked with NEP Norway to implement next-generation software-defined storage architecture

NEP Norway, part of NEP Group and the largest independent broadcast service provider in Norway, needed to replace an end-of-life proprietary storage system for its OTT streaming and broadcast workflows. The old platform had become a “black box,” limiting control, visibility, and reporting, while the team also needed flexible storage for a VOD library of around 40,000 assets and a 7-day catch-up service across about 100 TV channels.

NEP Norway chose Quobyte’s software-defined parallel file system to run on its existing custom servers and support multiple protocols and storage tiers. Quobyte worked closely with the team to tailor the deployment, including adjusting prefetching to avoid network overload after traffic proved up to 20 times higher than expected. The result was improved storage performance, simpler operations, better asset control, and a cost-effective, hardware-agnostic platform that supports NEP Norway’s future media distribution plans.
