High-Performance GeoPhysics Lab speeds seismic data reads 3x with Qumulo

The High-Performance GeoPhysics Lab (HPG), part of UNICAMP in Brazil, faced a challenge scaling its seismic data processing workloads. Their on-premises infrastructure became constrained as multiple departments shared resources, limiting compute and storage availability for their high-performance computing needs. They partnered with Qumulo to implement a hybrid cloud bursting solution that would allow them to leverage AWS compute resources without overhauling existing workflows or duplicating massive datasets.

Qumulo deployed a solution using Qumulo Core on-premises and Cloud Native Qumulo (CNQ) on AWS, connected via Qumulo's Cloud Data Fabric. This provided seamless hybrid data access and intelligent caching, which accelerated data read speeds by 3x after caching. The results included rapid cloud bursting for HPC workloads, reduced time to insight, better resource utilization, and unified visibility across their hybrid environment, all achieved without any changes to their applications or workflows.
