FuseFX, an award-winning visual effects studio, faced significant challenges scaling its on-premises render farm to meet the tight deadlines of episodic television production. Limited by physical space, power, and cooling, the company struggled with unpredictable demand bursts. Their search for a cloud-based solution led them to partner with Qumulo to overcome the critical need for fast, scalable storage to support high-performance rendering.

Qumulo provided its QF2 file storage system running on AWS, which became the foundation of FuseFX's hybrid cloud render farm. This solution enabled the studio to seamlessly burst to massive scale, successfully supporting a render job utilizing 1,000 machines (32,000 cores) simultaneously with peaks of 40,000 IOPS and 3.87 GB/second throughput. This capacity allowed FuseFX to meet a critical deadline for "The Tick," achieving a render scale that would have been physically impossible in their own data center and proving the viability of their cloud workflow.
