Case Study: Atomic Fiction achieves faster VFX performance and real-time storage visibility with Qumulo

A Qumulo Case Study

Preview of the Atomic Fiction Case Study

Atomic Fiction Leverages Qumulo Data-Aware Scale-Out NAS to Meet Rapidly Escalating I/O and Capacity Demands

Atomic Fiction, an award-winning visual effects studio, was growing rapidly and its aging storage system could no longer keep up with increasingly I/O-intensive VFX tools like Maya, NUKE, and Katana. The company needed a scalable, cost-effective solution with better visibility into performance and capacity, and selected Qumulo after comparing options for modern storage.

Qumulo implemented 10 QC24 hybrid storage appliances across 120 TB at Atomic Fiction’s Montreal facility, along with NFS, REST, and Qumulo Care support. The result was improved rendering and VFX performance, plus real-time analytics and dashboards that helped the team spot hot files, track usage, and influence user behavior; Atomic Fiction also reported that the deployment was highly successful and planned to add more nodes to other sites.
