Industrial Controls Distributors Successfully Juggles Specification Schemas From Over 100 Manufacturers using PIM from Questudio

Industrial Controls faced the daunting task of assembling specifications and marketing materials for roughly 100,000 SKUs sourced from over 100 manufacturers—each using different schemas and attribute labels—into a single technical catalog and eCommerce repository. To solve this, Industrial Controls engaged Questudio and its product information management (PIM) services to centralize and standardize the dispersed data and drive catalog and web content.

Questudio designed the information architecture, normalized disparate attributes, provided data-entry into the CatalogStudio database, generated 1,200 catalog pages using the InStudio plugin for InDesign, and integrated the database with Industrial Controls’ eCommerce site. The resulting full-line catalog (delivered September 2010) and improved website usability earned strong customer response, helped retain and expand partnerships across pharmaceutical, food, power, wastewater and HVAC markets, and delivered measurable outcomes: consolidation of ~100,000 SKUs, normalization across 100+ manufacturers, and a 1,200‑page printed catalog.
