Dallas Theological Seminary Using assessments to enhance student learning through analysis of historical data

Dallas Theological Seminary, a private evangelical seminary with more than 2,050 students from over 54 countries, faced fragmented assessment processes—multiple databases, spreadsheets and labor‑intensive Scantron sheets—that made reporting, data security and distance assessment difficult. Seeking better analytics and online testing, the seminary selected Questionmark in 2007, initially self‑hosting and later moving to external hosting and Questionmark Secure to support secure remote exams.

Questionmark enabled DTS to move almost all quizzes, surveys and exams online (including Mandarin translations) and provided an SQL-backed platform that preserves historical data for cohort and longitudinal analysis. The vendor’s solution delivered immediate feedback and percentile reporting to students, eliminated much manual Scantron grading, supported expanded distance learning, and supplied the data-driven insights needed for institutional research and regional accreditation.
