Aggregating Data from Online and Paper-Based Assessments

Dallas Baptist University faced the challenge of delivering and aggregating assessment data across online and paper-based formats to support course placement, expand online testing, and provide evidence of learner outcomes for accreditation. To meet these needs the university adopted Questionmark to create multimedia online assessments (initially for music placement) and to replace many paper-and-pencil tests, while also needing a way to combine Scantron results with online responses.

Questionmark’s platform — including its Printing and Scanning feature, Blackboard Connector, and topic-tagging for learner outcomes — was implemented to capture and merge responses from both delivery modes, link assessments seamlessly in Blackboard, and export data for custom reporting. The result: about 25 professors now use Questionmark to test a few hundred students each semester, DBU can aggregate and compare outcomes across delivery methods, provide immediate feedback and Gradebook integration for students, and generate the data needed for accreditation reporting.
