Copenhagen Atomics monitors 100,000+ sensors in real time with QuestDB

Copenhagen Atomics, a manufacturer of next-generation molten salt reactors, needed to monitor thousands of sensors across its thorium reactors in real time for anomaly detection. Their challenge was to find a high-performance, open-source time-series database that could handle this massive scale of data ingestion and provide rapid query response for their monitoring systems.

QuestDB was implemented as the core database, ingesting data from over 100,000 sensors sent every 10 milliseconds via a Kubernetes deployment on Azure. The solution provided instant anomaly detection and allowed operators to visualize and downsample data in milliseconds. Copenhagen Atomics achieved significantly better performance than alternatives and benefited from QuestDB's open-source flexibility and responsive support, positioning them to scale their reactor monitoring from R&D to full production.
