Airtel XStream Play, the OTT streaming platform from Bharti Airtel, needed a better way to handle rapidly growing user engagement and device analytics as its audience surpassed 100 million users. Its previous analytical database struggled with ingestion throughput, latency, and aggregation at scale, making it difficult to support the billions of daily events generated by its streaming service. To solve this, the team evaluated time series databases and chose QuestDB for real-time analytics.

With QuestDB, Airtel XStream Play built fast internal dashboards and analytics for device usage, content engagement, and capacity planning, benefiting from high-throughput ingest and high-performance SQL queries. QuestDB helped the team process more than 1 billion records per day with predictable latency, while also reducing infrastructure costs versus the previous solution. Airtel XStream Play said QuestDB made processing billions of daily records “a breeze,” and a deduplication feature later added to QuestDB completed a key requirement for exactly-once semantics.
