Wiltshire Council - Customer Case Study

Wiltshire Council, formed by merging five local authorities and serving 435,000 residents with about 5,000 employees, needed to consolidate and simplify its IT after the restructure. The council faced a major migration: moving 6,700 mailboxes from Notes and Exchange (2003/2007) into a single Exchange 2007 environment and consolidating five AD 2000/2003 domains — some 5,000 users and 2,000+ PCs/servers — into one AD 2008 domain, all with minimal downtime and enabling mobile working.

The council used Quest’s Migrator for Notes to Exchange plus Migration Manager for Exchange and Active Directory to automate overnight migrations with rollback capabilities and an intuitive GUI. The result: no unplanned downtime or data loss, only about 1% of users experienced real issues, elimination of custom coding, many days saved, a 50% reduction in migration staff, full ROI and contributions toward a 27% IT cost reduction over four years while enabling staff to work from any office.
