University Empowers Data Experts And Novices

The University of Alaska, a system of campuses serving about 33,000 students and 7,000 employees, needed a new querying and reporting tool after Oracle ended support for Query Builder 6i and as it prepared to move Banner to Oracle 10. The university required a single solution that could connect to diverse data sources, support ad hoc reporting without relying on metadata, and be usable by both novice staff and experienced database experts.

The university standardized on Toad Data Point, which provided heterogeneous connectivity, visualization, automation and a workflow simple enough for novices yet powerful for complex queries. After onsite training, users across departments began creating and sharing queries and reports easily, boosting productivity, reducing the cost and complexity of supporting multiple tools, and allowing the Banner upgrade to proceed without delay.
