Tenant migration enhances business agility

FirstGroup, a leading UK and North American transport operator with 10,000+ employees, needed to split its single hybrid Microsoft environment into separate US and UK tenants to improve business agility and prepare for future M&A and divestiture activity. The project required moving roughly 4,500 users along with their OneDrive and email while preserving collaboration between divisions, all under Microsoft technical constraints, strict timelines and the added complication of remote work during COVID-19.

Using Quest’s On Demand Migration and Migration Manager for Active Directory, plus Binary Tree Power365 Directory Sync, a two-person IT team planned and executed the tenant-to-tenant moves remotely. The tools enabled seamless user cutovers, secure migration of mail and OneDrive data, audit trails for compliance, and synchronized global address lists so teams could still find and collaborate with each other — delivering a controlled, efficient migration without the need to work on-site.
