Tech company expects to save $1.4 million by optimizing VMs

Dell Inc., a global IT company, needed to manage and optimize 22,000 virtual machines across 16 virtual centers with a small infrastructure team. The challenge was to automate resource monitoring and reclamation and improve VDI management to prevent performance issues and control OpEx and CapEx.

By deploying Quest’s Foglight for Virtualization the team automated discovery and reclamation of abandoned VMs, storage and CPUs—reclaiming about 80 TB of storage and 350 CPUs to save $450,000 in the first year and targeting an additional $1.4 million through further right‑sizing. The solution also delivers capacity management, scheduled reclamations and clear reporting, reducing manual effort, improving VDI visibility and ensuring resources are available for growth.
