A Quest Case Study
Maniilaq Association, a nonprofit healthcare provider serving about 8,000 people across a dozen villages in northwest Alaska, runs a private-cloud VMware environment with low‑cost zero‑client workstations. When they implemented Cerner Millennium via Citrix, Cerner’s requirement for 1:1 scanner-to-workstation TWAIN driver mapping — combined with a double‑hop (zero client → VM → Citrix) and four different Fujitsu scanner models — broke direct scanning and forced staff into a slow scan‑to‑file import workflow.
Maniilaq deployed RemoteScan Universal User Edition, running the RemoteScan server and client on the virtual desktop and presenting a single TWAIN driver name (“RemoteScan”) regardless of scanner model. The change restored one‑step scanning directly into Cerner, preserved the zero‑client infrastructure, eliminated the multi‑step workaround, and avoided costly hardware replacements (about $4,000 per workstation), improving staff efficiency and saving IT thousands of dollars.
